About Mark Fraser

Mark Fraser is a fundamentals-first trader and educator known for explaining why price moves, not just where it moves. He trades forex with a swing and position approach, building his bias from the macro picture before he ever looks at a chart. With more than seven years of trading and five years applying macro to live markets, his edge is his focus on the forces beneath price, central bank policy, inflation and growth data, bond yields, and how banks and market makers actually operate.

His guiding principle is simple: fundamentals give you the direction, and technicals give you the entry and the risk.

From Uni Scalper to Fundamentals-First

Mark started trading in 2018, at the end of his first year of university, drawn in like many people by the flashy side of trading he saw online. He worked through the usual early phase, signals, trial and error, and lower-time-frame trading, before COVID changed everything. With markets swinging hard on inflation, rate cuts, and rate hikes, he saw firsthand how completely fundamentals drive price and rebuilt his entire approach around understanding the reason behind every move. During the pandemic he started his own education-focused firm, then met his business partner Drew through a mutual friend and co-founded Beau Monde Outlooks, the fundamentals-focused trading firm they run together today.

How Mark Trades

Mark builds a fundamental view first, comparing one economy against another through the data that actually matters, GDP, inflation, employment, retail sales, and PMIs, then forms a directional bias from what each central bank is likely to do. Only then does he turn to technicals for timing, using supply and demand, key levels, and structure to enter, placing stops beyond major high-time-frame structure and holding for targets that are often hundreds of pips away. He trades higher time frames the way the banks do, pairing a longer-term fundamental view with a short-term tactical one, so he always knows both where the market is heading and when it makes sense to act.

A good example is one of the trades he has broken down publicly. During the 2022 Liz Truss mini-budget crisis, Mark shorted GBP/USD from around 1.34 as a weakening UK economy and a hawkish Fed drove the pound down toward 1.02. He held it for roughly 2,000 pips and made about 10% on just 0.5% risk, simply following the reasoning the whole way down and asking at each level whether the fundamentals still justified staying in.

Reading the Market Like the Banks

Where Mark is strongest is translating the institutional side of the market into plain language. He breaks down how banks actually trade, the carry, monetary-policy, and relative-value rules they follow, why the bond market and central bank policy move currencies, and why the "market makers are hunting your stops" story is more misunderstanding than conspiracy. His goal is to make the market feel less mysterious, giving traders the context that turns red-folder news from something to fear into something they can actually read.
